Q We began renovating our apartment in Mumbai (3 1/2 BHK, approximately 2,650 sq ft), on January 2006. We had to terminate work mid-way on two occasions, as the work (cement-plastering, vitrified flooring, etc) was apparently carried out in a very haphazard manner, and in due course, faults started cropping up. Furthermore, we had to contend with an inconsiderate decorator/contractor. As of now, a good amount of work — cement-plastering, vitrified flooring, bath tiling, POP punning, aluminium sliding windows and carpentry work — still needs to be done. Would you be so kind as to recommend an interior decorator based in Mumbai; someone with a dependable set-up, and an eye for detail?

Q We are building a house and all aspects of interiors have been decided, except flooring. Our home has two floors (ground + one), with four bedrooms, a kitchen, laundry, terrace, living cum dining room and a curved staircase. Can you suggest ideal flooring for all these rooms? My necessities are: the floor should be maintenance-free, crack-free, shiny and the joints should not be seen. Are vitrified tiles preferred to marble flooring? Or is marble the best option? What is ideal for the terrace, kitchen and staircase?

Q
I have purchased a new flat and am on the verge of buying Indian rosewood furniture from FabIndia for the living room. My house has ample lighting. The living-cum-dining space is around 300 sq ft, has vitrified tile floor and seating for four. I’d like to create a classic look with a dash of creativity. What do you think?

Q We’ve just moved into a new condo and have very little adorning our walls. I have one piece of art that I really like but don’t know how to coordinate it with our existing furniture or how to find pieces to complement it. How do I work out what scale is right for the bare walls?
